        Well!

Lots of reasons to do one: (in no particular order)
        a) to do research in a very specific topic
        b) publish papers. YAHOO!
        c) gain teaching and public outreach experience
        d) Travel! aka conferences
        e) “transferable skills”
ie writen & oral communication, organisational skills, numeracy, IT skills-all highly sought after by employers.

My humble advice if you’re interested is Do it! Go apply! It’s worth it in the end for the career doors it opens.

Personally at the end of it I hope to gain a position in a university department as a teaching fellow(with doing some research on the side).
