That is a tough question!!!! I am using a lot of fluorine at the moment in my research- an amazing element that has unique properties that make it useful in everyday items in some form or another (toothpaste, water) in my research I’m using it to modify medical materials…

My favourite element has to be Nitrogen. I use liquid nitrogen a lot to cool down a lot of my lasers. This is great fun!

I think I would go for sodium! I will always remember the first time I saw the explosive reaction between sodium and water

Well. The unofficial title of my PhD is
“Naughty & Nice, new linelists for Chromium Hydride and Manganese Hydride”.

Chromium Hydride is horrific: discontinuities, non-physical answers…

Manganese Hydride is lovely, easy to work with, converges, smooth continuous curves from computer simulations.

So on this basis my favorite element is MANGANESE!

Also Manganese compounds tend to be purple 🙂
